Art One/Leatherman

 

Fuselage: the complete central structure to which the wing, tail surfaces, and engines are attached on an airplane.

 

STRING

 

COTTON STRING- Smooth, thin, strong string made of cotton

 

JUTE- a strong, coarse fiber used for making burlap, gunny, cordage, etc., obtained from two East Indian plants. (Thicker with rough natural appearance)

 

ROUND

 

DOWEL ROD- Hardwood rod, does not bend, cut with a saw

 

REED- The straight stalk of any of various tall grasses, growing in marshy places. Flexible material, especially when wet, weavable, cut with scissors, comes in flat and round, a variety of thicknesses.

 

FLAT

 

HARDWOOD- The hard, compact wood or timber of various trees, as the oak, cherry, maple, or mahogany.

 

BALSA- A tropical American tree, yielding an exceedingly light, porous wood used for life preservers, rafts, toy airplanes, etc. Weak, cut with scissors or score.

 

REED- The straight stalk of any of various tall grasses, growing in marshy places. Flexible material, especially when wet, weavable, cut with scissors, comes in flat and round, a variety of thicknesses.

 

PAPER

TRACING PAPER- Thin, translucent paper.

OTHER

RAFFIA- Decorative grass

 

ADHESIVES

HOT GLUE- is a form of thermoplastic adhesive that is commonly supplied in solid sticks designed to be melted in a special gun. Adheres quickly, weak bond.

 

WOOD GLUE- A liquid adhesive, dries slowly, strong bond.

 

WEAVING

WARP      – The set of yarns/reed placed lengthwise in the loom (vertical), crossed by and interlaced with the weft, and forming the lengthwise threads in a weave.

 

 

WEFT- The horizontal threads interlaced through the warp in a weave.

Observation Drawing-

Drawing what you see/imitationalism (perceptual)

Negative Space- area around subject matter

Positive Space- subject matter

Disassociation-

Not associating what you see with something you know – drawing instead what you see. (i.e. I see light almond shapes with dark circles in the center, rather than I am going to draw eyes
